Composers, performers (singers, instrumentalists, conductors) and audio / visual artists spend ten days on the splendid island of Naxos and meet colleagues from other parts of the world, play music, exchange ideas, propose new projects and enjoy the beaches and the 5,000 year history of an island in the heart of the Aegean Sea.
Although the official dates for the 2022 Summer Meetings were August 21-30, the meetings started unofficially in mid July and hosted a variety of activities. This year's participants focused on vocal music: their special interest was to present songs which were written in the last century with the intention to serve as popular songs. Nevertheless, several decades later, due to the engaging lyrics, composition techniques, the vocal skills they demand from the singer, or just because of their beauty, these songs seem to remain in the repertory as "art songs" and are able to be programmed together with famous arias of the past - baroque, classical and romantic.
