Maddie Stephenson (b. 1999) is currently studying Music Composition and Theory at Boston University (College of Fine Arts, School of Music). She began taking piano lessons at four years old, and has played ever since. Being exposed to the world of music from a young age, she has gained invaluable experience from simply listening and playing. Maddie began to write casually at age ten, often collaborating with her sister, Kate. In the fall of 2017, when she was 18, she began to study composition from an academic perspective at Boston University. Since then, she has written a multitude of solo and chamber works. She was commissioned to write a solo piano piece, “Restless,” for her colleague at BU, which was performed on March 1, 2020. More recently, Maddie was commissioned to write a piece for the Brunswick High School Band in Brunswick, Maine, which will be premiered in December of 2020.
